Pattern Notes

  • This pattern is worked in the round (like a solid granny square) and turned for each new row.
  • The pattern is written using my signature Numerical Filet style. No graph is included as there is not a way to make a filet chart that can be read in the round.
  • This pattern can be made with any weight yarn & hook, but the finished sizes are as follows (using DK weight yarn and a 4mm hook):
    • The one-piece baby blanket (with shell border) is approximately 34 inches (87 cm) square.
    • A single granny square is approximately 8 inches (20 cm) square.
  • Please read the Filet worked in the Round Help Guide on page 3 of this pattern before attempting to begin. Even if you have worked my filet patterns before!

Yarn & Supplies - Baby Blanket - DK yarn (light worsted / #3 / 8 ply)

  • 1,400 total yards (1,280 meters)
    • Rows 1-9 (a Granny Block): 61 yards (56 meters)
    • Panel 1 (Rows 10-17 is a “panel”): 144 yards (131 meters)
    • Panel 2: 237 yards (217 meters)
    • Panel 3: 331 yards (303 meters)
    • Panel 4: 427 yards (390 meters)
  • Shell Border: 200 yards (183 meters)
  • 4mm Hook
  • Stitch Markers

Calculating Yarn & Sizing for Larger Blankets

  • Each panel repeat (rows 10-17) adds about 6 inches to the width/height.
  • Each panel uses the yardage of the previous panel + 94 yards (86 m) more. For example, adding a 5th panel to the baby blanket above would mean you take the amount of Panel 4 (427) PLUS 94 more - to get a total off 523 yards for this 5th panel. This would make the blanket 38 in chess square.

The Big Emoji Filet Crochet Block Book

Are any of your kids as crazy about Emojis? Then this is the PERFECT pattern book to create some awesome projects for them!
  • Beginner? Stitch tutorial links and other tips and tricks are included.
  • Pattern is written in numerical filet, which is quickly becoming the best filet reading and writing method out there! Clear instructions are given for this easy to understand pattern writing technique.
These Big Emoji Blocks can be worked with any weight yarn and then used to create all kinds of projects. One block in DK yarn with a 4mm hook measures approximately 11 inches after the sc edging, and 12 inches after adding the Granny Square border. You could use numerous edging and joining methods - I just love the look of granny clusters, and it makes joining all the blocks a breeze! If you’d like to work these emojis in a paneled blanket (no joining required) simply FDC/chain a multiple of 51 and place markers every 51 stitches. Then you can repeat the same Emoji across the panel OR you can do different Emojis across the width, just be sure to keep track of which section of 51 sts is which design.
