Christmas Candy Cane Blanket Pattern
This pattern can be worked with any weight yarn and gauge is not important.
I recommend making a swatch (one repeat, or one candy cane, 29 sts x 26 rows) with your desired yarn & hook. Measure and decide how many repeats you need to get the blanket size you want. Simple, right?
This pattern can be increased in multiples of 25+4 stitches across and 26 rows up to make any size blanket.
Wanna make individual blocks for a joined blanket or bunting? Just FDC 29 and to the pattern repeat only ONCE. Do NOT finish off your color yet. Follow the Granny Border directions (below).

Special Stitch (optional) FDC – Foundation Double Crochet
Ch3, yo and insert hook into third chain from hook, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook). *Yo and pull through 1 loop (this creates the base stitch (chain) for the next fdc), you should still have 3 loops on your hook. Now complete a dc stitch (yo and pull through 2 loops, yo and pull through 2 loops again to complete the dc stitch). To start the next stitch, yo and insert hook into the ‘v’ of the base stitch, yo and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), yo and pull through 1 loop on hook (chain created), now complete a dc stitch as before. Continue this sequence for the number of stitches in your desired width.
THE CHAIN 3 at the beginning of your Foundation Row counts like this: 1 chain is the chain stitch and the other two chains are your first DC of Row 1.
Christmas Candy Cane Blanket Pattern
Place stitch markers during row one in stitch 4, 29, 54, 79, 104.Each time you come to a marker, you should have just reached the end of a repeat (or unrepeated section). Move the marker into that last stitch of the repeat/section you just finished, and then start your next set.
Row 1: FDC 129; in repeats just dc across for 129 sts.
Alternately, chain 130 and dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each across. The ch2 at the beginning counts as a dc – 129 sts.

Granny Border – for making joinable blocks – 4mm hook
Rnd 1: Ch1 and start by going down the side of your blanket by making 2sc around each dc post (or row) down the side. Then you’ll do 2sc into the first stitch along the bottom of the blanket (into your FDC or chain), and then sc in each stitch across to the last chain/FDC where you’ll do another 2sc (these increases at the ends make the corners). Continue in this manner around your blanket. Join with a slst to your first sc. Sides: 58 sc — Corners: 1 sc — Top/Bottom: 29 sc
From here, you can border in endless ways. For this Christmas theme, I’m writing a granny border for you.
Rnd 2: Change to border color. With RS facing, join new color and ch3, make 2 more dc. You have just made one half of a granny corner, and are now set to work along the long edge of your blanket first.
Long sides: Sk 3 sts, 3dc into next st, [sk2 sts, 3dc in next st] repeat [ ] across to last 3 sc, skip these last 3 sts and do (3dc ch1, 3dc) into the corner stitch.
Top/Bottom: Then [sk2, 3dc into next st] across top of blanket, doing (3dc, ch1, 3dc) into the corner.
At last corner, finish the granny corner by doing 3dc, ch1 and slst to your first dc/ch3 (depending on preferred start method).
Finish off here and join up all your candy cane blocks with the method of your choosing!
