Week 22 of the Emoji Filet CAL -๐ – I think of this as the “proud” emoji. Which is fitting today, as I am pretty proud of myself for finally finishing all the work for the Advent CAL. Making TWO Christmas themed blankets before Halloween even hits is hard! I like to enjoy each season without them overlapping.
For me, now it’s on to working on the 2022 CAL test. I’ve got the blanket all designed and the clues all written up! An army (and I do mean a small army!) of crocheters will be testing out the 2022 CAL starting this week. I am really excited about 2022. And of course – the 2022 CAL will be free. So, all you really need to buy is yarn…though we all probably have plenty of that…so I’m encouraging everyone to make their 2022 CAL a stash busting blanket! More details on that coming in December.
If you’re just joining us for the 2021 Emoji CAL then you will want to check out this post for details on the CAL, then follow along with the free emoji block pattern below.
Make sure to share your emoji makes using #2021EmojiFiletCAL on social media so I can find your emojis! You can also join in our Facebook Group to show off your Emojis and other M&M projects.

Special Stitch (optional) FDC – Foundation Double Crochet
Ch3, yo and insert hook into third chain from hook, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook). *Yo and pull through 1 loop (this creates the base stitch (chain) for the next fdc), you should still have 3 loops on your hook. Now complete a dc stitch (yo and pull through 2 loops, yo and pull through 2 loops again to complete the dc stitch). To start the next stitch, yo and insert hook into the โvโ of the base stitch, yo and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), yo and pull through 1 loop on hook (chain created), now complete a dc stitch as before. Continue this sequence for the number of stitches in your desired width.
THE CHAIN 3 at the beginning of your Foundation Row counts like this: 1 chain is the chain stitch and the other two chains are your first DC of Row 1.
