Pattern Notes
- This pattern is worked from the bottom up and turned for each new row.
- Left-hand hook holders follow this pattern as written, noting that the odd rows (‘right side’ [RS] ) are actually the ‘wrong side’ [WS] for you. This means when you crochet even rows, you will be able to read the words. If you consult the graph, remember to read right to left on odd rows & left to right on even rows.
- A graph for this pattern can be found in a separate file.
- The finished size is approximately 54 by 62 inches (137 by 158 cm) using the yarn weight & hook listed below. You can create a smaller blanket by using DK (#3/4ply/light worsted)weight yarn.

Please Note: This is NOT a beginner overlay mosaic pattern. If you'd like a great introduction to overlay mosaic Love Always and Hopscotch are great for beginners and contain no diagonal stitches! The 2025 Mosaic CAL is also a great intro to overlay mosaic (and is a great free way to try out overlay mosaic if you never have and are unsure if you'll enjoy it). The CAL contains some diagonals, but is a good introduction to working those stitches.

Pattern Notes
- This pattern is worked row by row (no turning). You change colors every row between the background color, which is always the odd rows, and the “design” color which will always be even rows.
- Graphs for this pattern are included in a separate file. All ends are encompasses in an envelope border, with no end sewing required (knots are used to begin and end each row) save for a couple for the border.
- Finished size on cover using a 5.5mm hook and worsted weight yarn is xx by xx inches (xxx by xxx cm). A smaller blanket can be made using DK yarn (#3 on the label - called light worsted, 8ply or DK) and a 4.5mm hook. Going by the worsted yarn amounts below, you will have more than enough yarn if you are using DK.
- Yarn amounts given below were taken using a 5.5mm and Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn, which is a worsted weight yarn (with a 10% cushion). I Love this Yarn colors used for the blanket on the cover were: Sea Muse (10 balls, background color), Limelight (3 balls, turtles), Tropical Pink (2 balls, abstract), Mango (2 balls, starfish), and Toasted Almond (4 balls, border).
Background Color (odd rows): 2,512 yards (2,296 meters) total
Turtles: 1,031 yards (942 meters) total
Abstract: 384 yards (351 meters) total
Starfish: 496 yards (453 meters) total
Envelope Border (yarn amounts for 4 rounds)—
Front Border + Closing Round: 565 yards (517 meters)

- This pattern is worked from the bottom up and turned for each new row. It has no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ side and can be worked as written for either right or left hand hook holders.
- This pattern can be made with any weight yarn & hook, but sizing is given along with yarn amounts and hook sizes. 10% has been added to the yarn amounts to account for looser tensions.
- This pattern can be increased/decreased in multiples of 45 stitches across and 35 rows up to make any size blanket.
