- This pattern can be made with any weight yarn & hook.
- DIY (do it yourself) yarn amounts for only one square is listed below. This way, you can calculate exactly what you’ll need for your project. If you’d like to work in worsted weight, you’ll need a little more than the amounts below, and you’ll want to use whatever hook is recommended on your yarn label.
- The full photo tutorial for the blocks and joining is on pages 3-10. The border is on page 13.
- The printer friendly version (no photos, but a joining diagram is used) is on pages 11-13.
- 4mm Hook
- Center: 3 yards (C1)
- Petals: 18 yards (C2)
- Circle: 17 yards (C3)
- Square: 30 yards (C4)
- Joining: 10 yards per block (C3)
- Border: will vary, but 275 yards was used to border a 5x6 blanket (30 blocks).
Majestic Moss Blanket
Pattern Notes
- Gauge is not necessary for this project. One finished square measures approximately 8 inches and the completed blanket is approximately 45x65 inches using the yarn & hook listed below.
- You can make a larger or smaller version using more or less squares, or by changing your yarn weight & hook size. I recommend going up .5-1mm in hook size from what you normally use with your chosen yarn.
- Color options are endless for this design, though I would recommend no less than 4 colors + the Main Color to ensure a pleasing layout of square types/colors.
- This blanket consists of Moss Stitch squares. Each square has 17 rounds. All squares are completed and then joined in the Main Color using the continuous method to create a stunning effect of floating whole and stencil-like squares.

Pattern Notes- Gauge/tension - Not really crucial for this pattern, but for me (using the given yarn & hook size), one Hexie is 3.75 inches (9.5cm) from corner-to-corner and 3.25 inches (8cm) from side-to-side.
- Finished Size - 33 inches by 30 inches (84 cm by 76 cm) using DK yarn & a 4mm hook.
- Yarn - I’ve given the colors and brands for what I used in my blanket, but you can use any DK yarn you like best.
- Variations - This pattern can be worked with any weight yarn and hook, or be made larger by adding another ring of flowers, changing the flower layout, or by adding more background color Hexies. I have included a hexagonal graph (additional PDF file included with purchase) for you to play with color recipes and to help plan out other flower arrangements and larger blankets.

Stitches & Terms Used in this Pattern (US terms) Magic Ring - If you don’t like the Magic Ring: ch4, slst to first ch to join into a ring, then ch1 and proceed with the pattern stitches, working around the ring of chains. Your center hole might be a little larger than mine, but this won’t effect the rest of the pattern. rnd - round st - stitch sp - space slst - slip stitch ch - chain sc - single crochet dc - double crochet Granny Cluster (GC) - 3dc in same st/sp dc2tog - double crochet two together (also called a dc decrease) Bobble Stitch (Bobble) -- Yarn over (yo), insert hook into stitch and pull up a loop. YO, pull through two loops (this is like completing the first “half” of a dc).
- Repeat number one in the same stitch/space until you have a total of 6 loops on your hook - you will have made “half of a dc” 5 times.
- YO & pull through all 6 loops at once.
