2023 Temperature Filet CAL: The even-day months

The Special “33rd Row” for Even-Day Months

Used in Feb, April, June, September, and November. Each block in this pattern will end up the same size, and have same stitch count, after the sc edging. Since the number of days in each month varies between odd and even, the even-day months require the 33rd dc row to be split into two sc rows. This step keeps the Filler Color evenly placed on the top and bottom of each block while keeping the stitch count (block size) the same on the sides of each block.

Here I’ve just finished Row 32 of February.

Row 33 is done split into two rows of sc on the top and bottom of the block for even-day months only. After completing Row 32 of an even-day month, you’ll follow the steps below.

First – Ch1, turn; sc across top of block (41sts). Leave tail & cut filler color.

NextRotate your block clock-wise (or counter-clockwise if you hold the hook in your left hand) and join the Filler Color with a sc into the bottom of the first st in the FDC/chain; sc across the bottom of the FDC/chain (41 sts). Do not cut your yarn.

Lastly

I suggest placing a st marker (pink in the picture) in the last sc of split Row 33 (the one you just finished before going on to the border) so you can easily see it when you come back around at the end of the bordering and need to make your final sts into it.

For the Initial sc border-

Ch1 (not a st), rotate your block clock-wise to work up the side.

*1sc into the side of the sc row, 2sc into the side of each dc row, 1sc into the side of the sc row; 2sc into the first st, sc across, making 2sc in the last st; * Repeat between the * to work down the next side and across the bottom of the block. Slst to starting sc.

Top & Bottom: 41 sc sts

Left & Right: 66 sc sts

Corners: 1 sc st

After working February – and understanding the need for the splitting of the 33rd row – you may wish to begin the remaining even-day months with a row of sc in your filler color, then you’d then end your block in a row of sc filler color as well, and THEN ch1, turn and do the sc bordering. It only removes 2 ends, so it may not be worth it – but it’s an option.

As always – if you have questions, please ask!
