2025 Keep Calm CALs: info & supplies

Excited for the 2025 CALs to begin? Only two weeks until the first block releases on January 3rd!

This post will let you know the yarn amounts you’ll need for each blanket. To see an index of all the blocks (as the release) head to the official 2025 CAL page here.

For both blankets, you will make one block each month, for a total of 9 blocks. The blocks are not interchangeable between filet and mosaic (sorry).

How big is each blanket?

They are both about the same size (believe it or not) and large enough for a double bed topper or a nice big comfy couch blanket!

  • Using the yarn weight and hook noted below, one mosaic CAL block is 17 x 21 inches (43 x 53 cm) and your finished 9-block blanket will be 54 x 66 inches (137 x 168 cm) excluding the pom-pom fringe.
  • Using the yarn weight and hook noted below, one filet CAL block is 18 x 20 inches (46 x 51 cm) and your finished 9-block blanket will be 55 x 61 inches (138 x 155 cm), excluding the pom-pom fringe.

Yarn Amounts are given for Worsted Weight (#4 / Aran / 10ply)

Amounts based on my personal tension + a 10% cushion. DK (light worsted/8ply/#3) weight yarn will take less than worsted, so if you prefer DK and a 4mm hook you can safely plan by the below numbers have have more than enough yarn.

Both projects will need –

  • stitch markers
  • 5.5mm hook

For EACH filet block you will need-

  • Block Body + SC Edging: 306 yards (280 m)

Granny Joining & Blanket Border-

  • Granny Rnd/Join Total: 288 yards (263 m)
    • Per Block: 32 yards per block (29 m)
  • Granny Pom-Pom Border: 367 yards (335 m)

For EACH mosaic block you will need-

  • Background Color (odd rows): 220 yards (201 m)
  • Design Color (even rows): 120 yards (110 m)
  • Envelope Border: 250 yards (228 m)

Joining & Blanket Border-

  • Block Joining: 180 yards (165 m)
  • Pom-Pom Border: 262 yards (240 m)
