2023 Temperature Filet CAL: January 29-February 4

Our first single-digit high (6 degrees Fahrenheit) occurred on the 29th. I think I will be using this light lavender color quite a lot in the weeks to come – February is usually our coldest month here in the Midwest United States.

If you are just finding this CAL, please check out the details post for all the usual pattern information.

Row 30 (January 29): 6 , 9 , 7 , 9 , 6

Row 31: 8 , ( 1 , ) x3 then 11 , ( 1 , ) x3 then 8

Rows 32: dc across

January’s temperature rows are complete! Now it’s time to finish off the block with another filler row and a sc edging:

Row 33: (filler color) dc across – do not cut yarn.

SC Edging: Ch1 and rotate your block to work down the side.

*2sc into every row down the side; 2sc into the first st along the bottom, sc across making 2sc in the last st* Repeat between * up the other side and across the top. Slst to starting sc.

Top & Bottom: 41 sts

Left & Right: 66 sts

Corners: 1 st

Sew in all those ends & set the block aside.

We will begin joining the blocks in May while turning each block into a granny square (rectangle). We will do this using the continuous-join-as-you-go method and I’ll walk you through it with pictures. Fear not!

This week beings the month of February!

For the next 5 weeks, you will need to follow the pattern for your hemisphere to successfully make the correct design for your season. Notice you will use your filler color for the first two rows this month!

2023 Temperature Filet CAL – Post Locator

Finding this CAL after 2023? Please note these important pattern notes for the CAL-

  1. Do NOT cut your yarn color until you know what the next day’s temperature will be. Why? Because you can save on end sewing if the next day is in the same color range.
  2. Remember to ALWAYS TURN your block with each row – even if you are using a new color.
  3. With the exception of February, Row 2 will always begin the month’s colored temperature rows.
  4. New to my filet pattern writing style? Please read this guide before you attempt to begin.
