Welcome to February’s 2025 Filet CAL block pattern! This month is an easy and repetitive abstract design called Old Glass.
First, you NEED to read the supplies & info post to familiarize yourself with the following important pattern information:

Stitches in the Pattern ~ US Crochet Terms
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- sk – skip
- ch – chain
- slst – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- dc – double crochet
Old Glass Block: Filet Version-
Chain 60; begin Row 1 in the 6th ch from hook working in the ‘back bumps’ of the chain.
The chain 5 at the beginning counts as your base chain and the first “ 1 , ” of row 1.
Row 1: 1 , ( 3 , 5 , )x5 then 3 , 1
Row 2: 2 , ( 1 , 7 , )x5 then 1 , 2
Rows 3-5 (3 rows): 3 , ( 9 , )x5 then 3


Row 6: 2 , ( 1 , 7 , )x5 then 1 , 2
Row 7: 1 , ( 3 , 5 , )x5 then 3 , 1
Row 8: 6 , ( 1 , 1 , 5 , )x4 then 1 , 1 , 6
Row 9: 1 , ( 3 , 5 , )x5 then 3 , 1
Row 10: 2 , ( 1 , 7 , )x5 then 1 , 2
Rows 11-13 (3rows): 3 , ( 9 , )x5 then 3
Row 14: 2 , ( 1 , 7 , )x5 then 1 , 2
Row 15: 1 , ( 3 , 5 , )x5 then 3 , 1
Rows 16-39: repeat rows 8-15 THREE times total
DO NOT CUT YARN! Continue below following the directions for which hand you hold your hook in.

SC Edging your Monthly Block
Follow the appropriate instructions for the hand you hold your hook in.
SC Edging (right hooks): ch1, * rotate to work down the side of your block first. You will be working around the posts of the stitches on the end of the rows. Make 2sc account the first row, 1sc around the next row, now continuing to work around the posts repeat this 3-row pattern { 2sc, 2sc, 1sc} along the side ending with 2sc around the final row. Rotate to work along the bottom of the block. 2sc into the first st, sc in each across, 2sc in the final st * Repeat between * to finish remaining 2 sides. Join with a slst to first sc.
SC Edging (left hooks): ch1, * turn to work across the top of the block first. 2sc into the first st, sc in each across, 2sc in the final st (corner). Rotate to work along the long side next. You will be working around the posts of the stitches on the end of the rows. Make 2sc account the first row, 1sc around the next row, now continuing to work around the posts repeat this 3-row pattern { 2sc, 2sc, 1sc} along the side ending with 2sc around the final row/post. * Repeat between * to finish remaining 2 sides. Join with a slst to first sc.
SC Edging Stitch Count
- top/bottom: 57 sc
- sides: 65 sc
- corners: 1 sc (mark them with a stitch marker to make things easier later when we turn them into grannies while joining the blocks into a blanket)
